There are quite a few out there that would call the 500 a bit girly and there’s nothing wrong with that - if you happen to be a girl and want something cute. But for those who want a bit more aggression from their Fiat, they’d turn to the Abarth. And those who want even more should turn to Pogea Racing.
The German tuner has revealed a heavily-modified 500 Abarth called the Ares which produces, wait for it, 405 horsepower! That is almost three times the output of the stock 500 and it gets to that massive figure thanks to extensive mechanical modifications. No, they didn’t shove a V8 in it (it’d never fit anyway) it in fact keeps the turbocharged 1.4-litre four-pot but it’s been rebuilt from top to bottom and gets all sorts of high-performance components such as forged pistons, new cams, reinforced valve springs, racing spark plugs, a modified air intake, and bigger fuel injectors to produce 445Nm of torque. The manic little motor is mated to a five-speed manual that sends all those horses to the front wheels. It can go from 0-100kph in just 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 288kph.
The tuner dresses up the exterior with a carbon fibre wide body kit to give it a more aggressive look (it features a wilder looking front, fender flares, and a large diffuser) and it sits lower too thanks to a revised suspension system. As for the cabin, it gets leather-upholstered sport seats with red trim, and a Pioneer infotainment system with Apple CarPlay support replaces the stock unit.
“In order to realize this project, hardly a screw remained untouched over the four years of development,” said company founder Eduard Pogea.
This little beastie is fully street- legal but just five are being built.
