Welcome to My Wheels, Amir. You’ve always been passionate about cars, haven’t you…

Yes, when I was younger I loved cars and as I grew up that passion grew stronger. I really like BMW, Lexus, Lamborghini and Mercedes. These brands are my favourite and the models that they make are fabulous. I promised myself when I was a kid that one day I would have one of these prestige cars. I told myself back then to dream big and I am really happy to say that I achieved one of my dreams.

Another dream of mine was to meet Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis, and I was delighted when that came true, too, while on holiday in Los Angeles and at the launch of the Planet Hollywood restaurant!

That’s awesome! Back to cars — what was your first one?

It was a 2006 model Lexus ES 300, which I bought in 2008. It was a lovely car and I used to drive it daily. It had a really smooth ride and was ever so comfortable. Sadly, one day the engine suddenly burst into flames but fortunately I was not injured — however, although I fixed the engine and made all the repairs I didn’t want to keep the car after that incident and so I sold it.

But the very first car that I fell in love with was the 1994 W140 tuned by Koenig.

Koenig has done some great cars over the years. Let’s move on to your S 63 AMG, how long have you had it?

I bought this Mercedes back in 2013 so it’s been with me over three years. It was for sale in one of the auto markets here and although I paid a lot of money for the car, I have to say it’s been worth every penny. It has never let me down and is such a thrill to drive.

It’s ever so versatile; it’s a four-door saloon and has lots of space to accommodate four adults comfortably, but when I am alone in the car it is like I am driving a supercar. It has so much power and it sounds amazing, too, what with the four exhaust tips out back making a proper racket.

It looks mean with that matte black paint job and those blacked-out wheels...

Yes, they give it a little more edge I feel. It never stops being fun; one moment it behaves like a civilised saloon and the next, with a mere prod of the throttle, it’s aggressive and fast, and just swallows the road like there’s no tomorrow! It definitely has a split personality. It’s rapid and very enjoyable to drive, and I love it. It’s my daily driver — I take it everywhere.

It’s been all over the UAE and on long runs, it’s such a smooth ride. Usually after spending a few hours in a car you end up feeling rather tense and stiff but not in the S 63. It has all the luxury that you would expect from an S-Class but with AMG performance — and that’s a winning combination.

Speaking of performance, how much power does it have?

It has a 6.2-litre V8 that makes a whopping 525bhp and 630Nm of torque. And in Sport mode you can really feel the power, where the throttle response and transmission shifts are much faster. It can do the 0-100kph sprint in just 4.6 seconds. That is very impressive for a car this big and heavy. Even though it’s really quick, it is nothing compared to the bullet train I rode in Japan while on holiday there a few years ago. It had a top speed of 320kph! But I am very proud to own this car. As I said, ever since I was a boy I have loved cars and the pinnacle of motoring back then was Mercedes, so to own one now really means a lot to me. This car always puts a smile on my face.

Glad to hear it. Will you ever open a can of Coke in it again?

Not after the time I spilled one everywhere in the cabin. I was watching a movie in the back seat (my car has two screens behind each front-seat head rest) and I had a drink with me that I decided to open. As soon as I pulled the can ring, the contents splashed everywhere; all over the screens, the seats, the centre console. It was a mess and I was furious with myself to have done that to my pride and joy. I drove it to the nearest body shop and got the interior shampooed and cleaned and have never eaten or drunk in the car since! Finally, what is your dream car? My S 63 AMG is my dream car, however, I am in the process of buying a 2014 BMW M4 painted orange. I am very excited to be getting this car and once I do, I guess I will use my Mercedes a little more sparingly.
