2016 review: For the record

If you want people to stand up and take notice of your new car then there’s no better way than setting a lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. It’s the ultimate test bed - but even better than going fast around the ultimate proving ground is doing the world’s fastest drift. Or doing a massive jump…

NextEV NIO EP9 ’Ring

The record for the fastest EV around the 20.8km track belonged to Toyota’s TMG EV P002 racecar. It set a time of 7:22.329 back in 2012 but the EP9 did it in a blistering 7:05.120. That will take some beating.

Nissan GT-R drift

This record for the fastest drift was set right here in the UAE by professional drifter Masato Kawabata with a specially tuned 1,361bhp GT-R at Fujairah International Airport at a speed of 189.5mph (305kph).

Red Bull jump

This massive leap by Bryce Menzies in his Pro2 truck over a ghost town in New Mexico set a new Guinness World Record of 379.4 feet.

This one lapped the Nordschleife in 7:10.9 seconds which makes it the fastest rear wheel drive, street-legal car around the legendary ‘Ring and the sixth-fastest production car ever to clock a timed-lap.
