To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Golf GTI, Volkswagen announced the hottest version of the iconic hot hatch, the Golf GTI Clubsport, this April. And two months later, we promptly pitted it against the MkI original. Although we were impressed by the car, we wished we could get our hands on one equipped with a manual transmission. And it looks like that wish will come true soon, and much closer home than we thought. Volkswagen Middle East has announced that the Clubsport is now available across the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman with a six-speed manual transmission. Yes, you heard it right!

Capable of accelerating from 0 to 100kph in just 6.3 seconds and a boost function that releases up to 290bhp, albeit for a short time, the latest model is the most powerful production GTI ever to be sold in the region. The limited edition model is available for pre-booking in these markets now, with prices starting at Dh138,000 in the UAE.

“The manual edition of the Golf GTI Clubsport is a driver’s car, showcasing pure driving pleasure with a power-packed performance, innovative technology and stand-out new design. Our customers have the opportunity to relive the original GTI manual experience,” says Andrew Savvas, brand director,  Volkswagen Middle East.

Apart from the stick shift, the Golf GTI Clubsport also boasts many visual and aerodynamic changes from the regular GTI including a new front bumper, side sills, rear diffuser, multi-part roof spoiler and forged alloy wheels exclusive to the model.
