George Barris, the legendary American designer and builder of many famous Hollywood custom cars such as the original 1966 Batmobile, may have left us last year but his amazing creations live on – and are for sale such as this awesome 1951 Lincoln Lido coupe.

The model was introduced in 1950 and was regarded as Lincoln’s rival to the General Motors hardtops of the time. It had bags of style and could be had with a vinyl or canvas-covered roof, fender skirts, bright roof drip rails and rocker panel moldings, dual door mirrors, a gold-coloured bonnet ornament and a custom interior with special door and side panels. In total, 4,482 units were built – but none are as fetching as this one.

Belonging to Roy Johnson (the assistant to Barris' Batmobile who passed in 1990), it has a 337 cubic inch V8 mated to a four speed Hyrda-Matic automatic transmission and features an eye-catching two-tone dark green and light green metallic custom paint job with with pinstriping applied by the famous Von Dutch, and is one Lincoln we’d love to get our hands on.

Still with the original chrome components and the original dark green vinyl roof intact, this Lido also features a stunning two-tone green interior with velour trim for the doors and seats and a custom shift knob. There’s a signature of Barris on the dashboard so whoever buys this car will want to make sure when he or she is polishing it, they don’t accidentally rub that off for having it signed by the great man himself is part of the appeal of this car – and explains the hefty price tag; it is now being advertised on eBay and can be yours for a ‘Buy It Now’ price of $48,900 (Dh179,460). It’s worth every penny for the only Lincoln Lido Coupe customized by the “King of Kustoms” and comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. It would sure brighten up any car collector’s garage.
