You usually associate vans and wagons with surfers but that is about to change thanks to the Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Hurley concept. Chevy and surfing performance and innovation brand Hurley put their heads together to create the ultimate wave wanderer.

It features a roof rack that can transport two surf boards, a special Bimini top for the bed provides shade when you fancy a little nap after you’ve been hitting the waves, and there is a rack in the bed that allows you to hang your wetsuit to dry.

But, why convert a rugged Colorado Z71? Because, you often find the best waves in the most remote places and getting there can be a little tricky – but not with this oh so capable Chevy. The Z71 Hurley concept features a Chevrolet Performance concept exhaust system and an all-new 3.6-litre V6 whoch will make its debut in the 2017 Colorado. Featuring direct injection, continuously variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation, it makes 308 horses and is mated to a new eight-speed automatic. It also gets a suspension lift, new 17in wheels wrapped with Goodyear DuraTrac tyres, special off-road lights, and new running boards. It boasts a custom Seafoam Green exterior accented with Hurley graphics. It looks like this one can go anywhere. Apart for actually on the water of course…

But it isn’t just the exterior or chassis that has been upgraded – the interior has been worked over too. The Khaki Green tone is also used on the armrests and door panels - but seats wouldn’t last too long if you keep getting them wet with salty, sandy water but Hurley and Chevy have upholstered them with ventiprene - a breathable material similar to that used for wetsuits – which dries out very quick so you can hop in even if you’re still dripping wet. What’s more, the truck has a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot so beachgoers can post snaps of their antics on all their social media accounts. Oh, and watch out for weather and surf reports…
