Everyone’s favourite funky little city car, the Spark, has had a bit of a growth spurt it appears. And it looks like it’s got a bit of an attitude now too. Chevrolet has created a special edition called the Spark Activ which joins the Beat Activ Concept and the Trax Activ Concept and like those two, the newbie gets a few off-road add-ons just in case you want to venture off the beaten track.
It features trail-inspired accents and upscale features which don’t seem to take away from the urban-chic design. All of the usual crossover styling elements are present; black mouldings clad the front and rear bumpers, rocker panels, and wheel wells and it has silver faux-metal brush guards at the front, sides and back. It also gets larger front fog lights that have been set into body-colour housings and a silver plate with the “Activ” name. It rides on 15in alloys while the suspension has been raised by 10mm to give the Spark Activ more ground clearance if you really do go off-road. We wouldn’t advise that as the Activ doesn’t look like it’d be much good on anything other than a smooth road; it is powered by a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder motor that makes just under 100 horses and is mated to a five-speed manual or optional CVT which powers the front wheels. Hmm, better stick to the school/grocery run.
The cabin gets black leatherette upholstery, and some of the standard equipment includes the Chevy MyLink infotainment system with a 7.0in touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto compatibility, a rear-view camera, satellite radio, 4G hotspot, AC, cruise control, and keyless entry. Loaded then, and it has 771 litres of boot space when you fold the second row.
