After lying low for a few years, Volkswagen’s Czech subsidiary Škoda seems to have gone into overdrive. Last year, it launched its first ever SUV, the Kodiaq, and has followed it up with two new versions of the utility vehicle which were revealed last week. Now, the European carmaker has unveiled its hottest, most powerful Octavia ever in both hatchback and estate versions.
The Octavia vRS 245, as its name suggests, makes 245 horsepower (242bhp) and 370Nm from its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Mated to either a six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, it propels the Octavia vRS 245 hatchback from 0-100kph in 6.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 250kph, while the estate takes a tenth of a second longer. This makes it as powerful as the updated Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance, It also adds a good 15 horses to the Octavia vRS 230’s output while the torque has been bumped up by 20Nm.
Other upgrades include an electronic limited slip differential that is standard, Dynamic Chassis Control, and driver assist features such as trailer assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot assist, city emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. In comparison to the standard Octavia, the vRS 245 sits 14mm lower and rides on 19in wheels. It also has a rear track that’s wider than the vRS 230’s.
It also benefits from the cosmetic tweaks that the Octavia’s recent facelift introduced, and looks sharp with the gloss black grille, honeycomb mesh air intakes and full LED adaptive headlights up front. Inside, the Octavia vRS 245 gets a 9.2in Columbus navigation and infotainment system, along with black Alcantara sports seats and aluminium pedals.
The hot version of the Octavia will have its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
