The Corvette Racing C7.R is a brute of a machine designed to win on the track – but Chevrolet has a special road-going version of the pumped-up car and Middle East fans can get their hands on one.
Unveiled at the Detroit motor show, just 650 are being built for global sale and 23 of them are going to be making their way to the region. They’ll be road-going, track-capable homage versions of the race cars and enthusiasts will no doubt be over the moon if they can get one because all C7.R Special Edition cars are based on the Z06 in its most hardcore 3LZ trim. Powering the car is the same supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine as the ‘standard’ C7-generation Corvette Z06 making 650 horses. They will come with the Z07 Performance Package with adjustable front and rear aero components and Brembo carbon ceramic brakes which have rather fetching yellow brake calipers (they should contribute to greater handling through their reduced un-sprung weight) and extra sticky Michelin PS Cup 2 tyres along with a specially serialised vehicle identification number. They will all be finished in the C7.R race cars signature yellow paint (they can also opt for black if they wish) with coordinated exterior and interior accents.
Some of the other highlights for the exterior include C7.R graphics package, black wheels with yellow accent stripe and Corvette Racing-logo centre caps, visible carbon fibre ground effects package, new visible carbon fibre bonnet section, grilles and vents finished in Spectra Gray Metallic. As for the cabin, it features Jet Black leather with sueded microfibre accents on the instrument panel and doors, sueded microfibre-trimmed Competition Sport Seats, and yellow contrast stitching throughout the interior. The Corvette Racing sill plates are a nice touch and a special indoor car cover (with C7.R graphics) is included.
