It was last October that Chinese carmaker Geely announced its all-new global brand Lync & Co. It also showed off its first vehicle, an SUV called 01. Now the automaker, which also owns the Swedish brand Volvo, has previewed the second vehicle under the new badge. Called 03, the new model will get its global premiere at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 19 as a design prototype.
A four-door saloon, the Lynk & Co. 03 stays true to the design template set by designer Peter Horbury with the crossover. It is also expected to be underpinned by the same platform as the 01, which is a version of Volvo’s Compact Modular architecture. “Now with two cars in the Lynk & Co. family, just five months in to our company’s life, the promises we made of having a range of vehicles ready, high quality, unrivalled technology and connectivity as standard, and a unique brand identity, are being proven,” says Alain Visser, senior vice president of Lynk & Co. He also says the brand will challenge the traditional business model of the car industry by offering online sales and home delivery services, and user experience that meets the expectations of a new generation of car buyers.
Although technical details haven’t been divulged yet, powertrain options are likely to include inline three- and four-cylinder engines as well as plug-in hybrid systems. And with access to Volvo’s impeccable safety technologies, the Lynk & Co. cars are expected to excellent good safety ratings.
Lynk & Co. has announced plans to introduce these models in China this year, and is expected to enter the US and Europe in the near future.
