When the Porsche 911 GT2 RS revealed itself digitally as the cover car Forza Motorsport 7 last month, it caused a flurry of excitement among Porsche aficionados. Now, putting an end to all the conjecture and anticipation, the German carmaker has taken the wraps off the real 911 GT2 RS, the fastest and most powerful street-legal 911 ever built. It churns out a whopping 700 horsepower and 750Nm of torque from its 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six, which is 80 horses and 50 Nm more than the previous 911 GT2 RS’s output. With a seven-speed double-clutch transmission sending all the oomph to the real wheels, the 2018 911 GT2 RS goes from 0-60mph (0-97kph) in just 2.7 seconds, and goes all the way up to a maximum speed of 340kph.

The performance enhancement is a result of a combination of factors including larger turbochargers that push more air into the combustion chambers, a new a water-spray cooling system, a customised GT seven-speed double-clutch transmission and a specially developed lightweight titanium exhaust system among others.

Porsche says the new model will boast “exceptional dry grip” thanks to its race-bred chassis with rear axle steering and stability management system that’s been tuned for spirited driving. It also comes with an optional Weissach package that slashes weight even further by adding magnesium wheels and several elements made of carbon fibre, including the roof and anti-roll bars.

Inside, the 911 GT2 RS is decked out in red Alcantara, black leather, and carbon fibre trim pieces as standard. A Sport steering wheel with shift paddles is standard too. Rounding out the cabin are bucket seats with carbon fibre reinforced backrests.

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS has a base price of $293,200 (Dh1,076,923).
