Jaguar is on a roll. After literally rolling its way into the record books with the new E-Pace SUV, the British carmaker has unleashed the fastest and most powerful version of its flagship XJ saloon. Dubbed  XJR575, the new super saloon does 0-100kph in just 4.4 seconds and hits the top speed of 299kph in a mere 44 seconds. This is achieved thanks to a 25-horsepower bump in output from the supercharged 5.0-litre V8, which now puts out 575 horsepower and 700Nm of torque.

To visually differentiate it from the regular XJs, Coventry is two bespoke exterior colour finishes created by the Special Vehicle Operations – Velocity Blue and Satin Corris Grey. These are supplemented by exterior details such as a rear spoiler, side sills, front bumper and lower air intakes featuring gloss black surrounds, along with new badging and twin bonnet louvres. It also gets red brake calipers behind the 20-inch Farallon gloss-black wheels.

Open the doors and you’ll see bespoke embossed tread plates alongside intaglio and diamond-quilted seating add distinction to the XJR575’s interior. “This is a performance vehicle, but that doesn’t mean we have had to cut any corners when it comes to comfort or design,” says Ian Callum, Jaguar’s Director of Design. “Jaguar is the standard bearer for interior refinement and the XJR575 is no different. It can go very quickly, but it does so with the serene comfort customers expect from a Jaguar saloon. That makes this a very special car indeed,” he adds.

The car also gets enhancements to the Touch Pro Infotainment system including a larger 10-inch touchscreen and 4G Wi-Fi capability, as well as safety features including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Driver Condition Monitoring.

Jaguar also released a video (click above to watch) showing a 44-second “high-speed interview” with designer Wayne Burgess by TV presenter and race driver Amanda Stretton as the performance saloon accelerates from 0-299kph. “I have done plenty of short interviews in my time, but nothing quite like this!” says Burgess. “It might have been a bit of fun but doesn’t it just demonstrate perfectly the extreme performance of the new XJR575. I could barely finish answering those quick-fire questions before we hit 186mph and then it was all over! Can we go again?”

In the UK, the Jaguar XJR575 model is priced from £93,710 (Dh448,281).
