The Stelvio is a big departure from Alfa Romeo’s traditional offerings. How vital is it for the brand and when does it go on sale here?
After relaunching the brand with Giulia, Alfa Romeo has decided to pursue the strategy of expanding its model range in one of the most competitive and growing segments in the market — premium mid-size SUVs. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio, the first Quadrifoglio that is also an SUV, is the finest expression of Italian design, interpreted with Alfa Romeo’s unique flair. Orders for the vehicle start next month and the first deliveries will commence next March.
Do you see Alfa Romeo’s Quadrifoglio models as direct rivals to vehicles from Mercedes-AMG and BMW M Division, or is the focus different?
We prefer to talk about the uniqueness of Alfa Romeo products rather than compare ourselves with competitors. The Giulia Quadrifoglio is the most powerful Alfa Romeo road car ever built and offers many best-in-class features, perfectly coherent with the Alfa Romeo brand values. Furthermore, it is the flagship of the rebirth of Quadrifoglio, as it is fully compliant with the redefined Quadrifoglio requirements: advanced technology, dynamism, lightness and efficiency, Italian style and Alfa Spirit. These attributes also apply to the Stelvio Quadrifoglio, the fastest SUV in its class.
There is still a widely held perception that Alfa Romeos aren’t reliable. How can this be addressed?
Starting from the rebirth of the brand, huge investments have been made to ensure maximum quality and reliability. An investment of Dh5.6 billion has been made in the production plant, FCA Cassino, exclusively dedicated to Alfa Romeo. In addition, continuous education and training of our people has guaranteed a premium plant and premium products. This is reflected in the fact that, to date, the Giulia and Stelvio have won more than 70 awards from the international motoring press.
