Hey, psst, want a quick profit fix? Two words: limited, edition.

Woking has woken up to this long ago, and the latest in a line of special cars from McLaren are 10 bespoke creations each unique and inspired by the McLaren 570S GT4 race car.

McLaren kept things sane to the point of road legality, but with racing definitely the focus, and best of all, with special colour schemes inside and out that come inspired by classic McLaren racing liveries.

The 10 MSO examples, dubbed MSO X (that’s McLaren Special Operations Ten) feature high-downforce wings which we don’t suspect will get much use when the cars arrive at Newport Beach in California, where all 10 are headed for US customer deliveries. Yeah, sorry…

Designed to look as closely as possible to the GT4 race car, the MSO creations feature liveries off the legendary Gordon Murray McLaren F1 endurance racers of the Nineties. The aforementioned wing actually adds 100kg of extra downforce, and the goose neck roof snorkel enhanced induction airflow, with the added bonus of improving cockpit acoustics.

Speaking of which, there’s a titanium exhausts system out back to help the turbocharged V8 breathe freer, and extensive use of carbon fibre all round. In a satin finish, the carbon fibre is used for the entire bodywork, including the roof and the engine cover, as well as unique rear bumper cut-outs to help shed a few extra grams.

“The MSO X collection is the perfect example of the rich vein of bespoke service offered by McLaren Special Operations,” says Jolyon Nash, McLaren Automotive Executive Director, Global Sales and Marketing. “Customers come to us with their thoughts and ideas and MSO works with them to set boundaries within which they can then let their imaginations run wild. What could be better than a McLaren buyer playing the role of ‘race engineer’ in briefing the MSO team and directing them to test and validate those ideas to create a race-bred road car such as this?”

The British supercar company has released images of two examples commemorating the the F1 GTR Longtail chassis number 26R which placed third at the 1997 24 hours of Le Mans, as well as the famous Ueno Grey F1 GTR chassis number 01R that won the great race overall in 1995.
