If you happen to be a rich philanthropist who is also a car lover, then here’s your best chance at getting all that you want in one go. Remember Ferrari chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne’s announcement in August that one additional example of the LaFerrari will be built to be auctioned for charity? Well, that extra special hypercar is ready and is up for grabs at a charity auction to be held this coming Saturday (December 3) by RM Sotheby’s. The sale will take place during the Ferrari Finali Mondiali weekend at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The 949bhp LaFerrari hybrid hypercar was limited to 499 coupés, so the car on offer is the 500th unit of the coveted machine. The proceeds from the auction will go towards reconstruction of Central Italy, which was hit by a devastating earthquake earlier this year. So, it features unique livery and interior, designed as a tribute to Italy, along with a special plaque to commemorate the occasion.
Expect fierce bidding, as this sale presents collectors an unexpected chance to acquire a new LaFerrari coupé, but if you were anyway planning on spending a few millions on charity, the LaFerrari will come as a bonus. “It is an honor for RM Sotheby’s to be entrusted with the sale of this important car and to help raise significant funds for a desperate cause,” says Rob Myers, CEO and chairman of RM Sotheby’s. “The earthquakes which have struck Central Italy this year devastated the lives of thousands of people, and the money raised by the sale of this LaFerrari could not be put to a better use. The auction will be an historic event, and the generosity of Ferrari SpA will change lives in the areas most affected by the natural disaster.”
With the amount of interest this sale is expected to generate, RM Sotheby’s is offering a variety of remote bidding options, including telephone and absentee bidding, for those unable to attend the event in person.
