The all-new second-generation Porsche Panamera won’t even be shown to the public until the Paris motor show opens its doors this October, but from what we’ve seen at the car’s press launch in Berlin the Panamera will hit the road late this year and early next year in the UAE with some flash new tech.

There’s the Weissach, Porsche-developed new MSB platform that will serve the upper halls of the VW Group, that is to say flagship Audis, next-generation Bentleys, and rumour has it maybe even SUVs with Raging Bull badges on the bonnet… There’s the new eight-speed PDK transmission suitable for RWD, AWD and hybrid applications all in one. There’s the rear-wheel steering and turbine technology off 911s, and there’s the premiere of a dedicated 48V electrical system in a production car just to run the Panamera’s new active roll-control gubbins.

And then of course, in truest Porsche tradition, there are the options… You can spec up your Panamera on Porsche’s Middle East online configurator right now if you wish (on a tour of Porsche’s Leipzig plant we already saw new Panameras running down the production line so it’s not long before deliveries commence), just be wary of the lure of Dh14,320 paint, Dh16,030 wheels, Dh11,340 exhausts, and coloured Porsche crests…

Before you know it you’ve added a new Dh209,000 718 Cayman’s worth of options on a 2017 Panamera 4S, and suddenly your Dh480,000 sports saloon costs Dh690,000… Hey, off topic, did you know Porsche’s the most profitable carmaker per unit in the business…
