Always wanted the monstrous G-Wagen 6x6 but couldn’t afford one? Well it seems now you can have one, sort of… Minus the the two extra wheels...
What you see here is the much-awaited pick-up version of Mercedes’ much-vaunted G-Class undergoing testing under extreme snow conditions in Europe.
Last year our spy had spotted a long wheelbase version of the venerable Geländewagen, and with the new test mule, it’s evident that Stuttgart is aggressively expanding its flagship SUV line-up. These first shots reveal a double cab G 500 with a noticeably longer wheelbase and a pick-up bed concealed under a grey soft-top cover.
While the tester is likely running the body of the old G-Class, we reckon the rear of the final product will more than echo the G 6x6.
Actually, it will also have a lot in common with the G-Class 4x42 model, because proportion-wise it is very similar — the key giveaway being the newly incorporated running board to ease ingress and egress to cabin considering the increased ride height.
The new G-Class pick-up should make its arrival in 2018 in standard G 500 guise followed by the mental AMG G 63 and G 65 variants.
