It was just a few months ago that we drove the all-new Cadillac XT5 here in the UAE. Now, we’ve got the first shots of the smaller XT3 crossover undergoing developmental testing in winter conditions. While the XT5 replaces the old SRX, the XT3 represents Cadillac’s entry into the premium compact crossover segment.
Although smaller in dimensions, the prototype spotted here appears to have taken styling cues from its larger sibling, suggesting that the production car will be consistent with Cadillac’s corporate design language. However, the outline of the grille seen behind the disguise seems to have been influenced by the one previewed in last year’s Escala concept. The headlights also look like they will debut new LED graphics that could eventually be seen in every other model in the brand’s portfolio. Another element from the Escala that could make its way into the XT3 is the boomerang-ish taillight design.
While the XT3 is expected to be offered with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, interestingly, the prototype’s camouflage has provision for a port on the front left fender, suggesting a plug-in hybrid variant is on the cards.
