It was just last week that BMW revealed its new 8 Series Concept. This week, we have photos of the hotter M version of the large coupe, albeit in prototype form. The M8, covered in psychedelic camouflage, was at the 2017 M Festival held at the Nürburgring last week.
Although at first glance it looks very similar to the 8 Series prototypes spotted earlier, on closer inspection of the photos, you can see a few differences, such as the signature quad exhausts at the back and the massive blue M brake callipers. Up front you can also see the production-ready laser headlights that were first introduced in the i8.
Our spy has also got a peek into the M8’s cabin, which looks pretty much the same as the one previewed in the 8 Series concept, except for the steering wheel.
Power is expected to come from the 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8, which will be the same block that powers the upcoming M5. Paired to an eight-speed automatic, it will send power to all four wheels via the x-Drive system.
When it comes out in 2019 as a 2020 model, it will be the first 8 Series officially worked on by the guys at Garching. Although an M version of the previous 8 Series was planned, the idea was later dropped.
