It’s only been a few weeks since Audi unveiled the all-new A7 Sportback but now, our snapper has spotted the racier RS7 during preliminary testing in Spain with hardly any camouflage covering up the elegant body.

Because of that we can see that it has a slightly different front bumper compared to the standard A7 while the profile — in particular the grey wheel arch extensions — suggest it will have extended tracks, but we doubt it’ll ride on wheels quite as large as the ones this test mule has.

Around the back, it gets a pair of fat oval exhaust tips housed in the A7’s regular rear bumper but the production model will have a different bumper with integrated exhausts and they’ll probably flank a large diffuser.

As for power, expect to find a biturbo 4.0-litre V8 with at least 650 horses, a 0-100kph sprint under 4.0 seconds and a top speed in excess of 300kph. It’ll also have four wheel drive and the latest eight-speed S-tronic gearbox. The RS7 Sportback will be out towards the end of next year and could be followed by a more potent hybrid that could have 700 horses...

For those who don’t want that much power but do want sportier looks, then the S7 — due in the first half of 2018 — should do nicely.
