Happily married? Give your wife a nice big kiss goodbye, because this here in front of you is the new ‘widowmaker’ 911. The infamous GT2 nameplate will soon be back for the 991 generation Porsche sportscar, as these first-ever spy shots of the prototype model dominating the Nürburgring Nordschleife prove. The testing team tried to mimic the look of the new GT3 for its disguise, perhaps to throw us off into the direction of an RS model, but the evidence is in the extreme width of the car enhanced by flared wheel arches, tell-tale turbocharged-model side intakes, larger wheels and bigger brakes.
Then there’s also the new, taller fixed rear wing and additional aerodynamic aids dotted around the swollen bodywork.
As per tradition, the new GT2 will be closely related to the recently released 911 Turbo, but of course all-wheel drive will make way for strictly rear-wheel drive and the power from the 3.8-litre flat-six engine will rise to over 560bhp while the weight should be slightly lowered with features such as carbon-fibre bucket seats, forged lightweight alloy wheels, discarded rear seats…
And this is just the beginning, because the limited-edition previous GT2 RS will also need a successor; a 620bhp+ successor.
