Welcome back to My Wheels, Kamlesh. The last time we saw you — in issue 492 — you had a 2013 Mustang painted to look like the Red Tail edition car. Have you still got it?
Thanks for having me back. As much as I liked that car, it was a V6 and no matter what I did to improve the performance, I wasn’t satisfied, so I sold it. That was painful as I had spent a lot of time and effort, not to mention money, to spruce it up. It was plain silver and didn’t look sporty at all. As you know, I like to see bright colours on sportscars, such as red or yellow, so rather than repaint the car, I decided to give it a new look.
It may have looked faster, but you were still pining for more muscle…
Exactly. So, I decided to look around for another car and narrowed my choice down to a 2015 Mustang and a 2015 Camaro.
It was tough to choose between the two as both the Ford and the Chevy had lots going for them. Having visited both dealerships and testing both cars, I opted for this 50th-anniversary-edition Ford, partly because I am now familiar with the model and also because it ticked all the right boxes for me and as an added bonus it was finished in my favourite colour, Kona Blue.
We know you love to tinker with your cars (you had a heavily customised Daewoo Matiz too...) and it looks like you have been busy with your Ford as well. Tell us what you’ve had done to your car.
I have always liked the fender scoops on the Shelby GT350 so I added them to my car, and also opted for a large carbon fibre spoiler to improve the downforce. Then I had the side skirts, front lip and upper portion of the rear diffuser finished in a glitter-red paint along with the wheels, just to make it stand out a little bit more.
As for the V8, I have tuned it to make an additional 40 horses, but in the future I would like to add the Roush active exhaust. It would be super-cool to be able to control the exhaust note.
And how happy are you with the finished article?
I am really pleased — not to mention proud — of all the work that has gone into this car. In fact, I never plan to sell it — this will be in my collection forever. To me this is perfection, I love everything about this car from the leather seats to the rumble of the V8.
And now with the weather being so good, it is such a joy to drive around with the top down.
Your last one was a convertible too, but you use this one far more sparingly, don’t you?
That’s right — I also own a Dodge Charger, which I use as my daily driver and that is lots of fun in its own way and I use my Ford on the weekends. Sometimes I’ll take my family or friends for a ride and it’s always a blast.
I love the massive 5.0-litre — it’s so potent. It’s so much more thrilling to drive than my previous ’Stang with the V6.
So you have a Charger and a Mustang — what else would you like to add to the list?
I would love to have a 2017 Audi R8 — that is a beautiful car. I have driven a McLaren MP4-12C and that was an awesome car too. But I think the R8 is simply stunning. Since I have two American cars, I think it would be good to have a German too!
