We love the G-Class and always wind down our windows when next to one waiting at the lights just to hear that awesome exhaust note. The rugged Mercedes is a real treat for the ears and eyes and has such a strong personality (we love the classic blocky styling) and now, the interior has been spruced up by Carbon Motors.
The company has given the Geländewagen (which was developed at the end of the Seventies as a military vehicle by the order of the Shah of Iran and has gone from strength to strength ever since – it’s particularly cherished here in the UAE) a luxurious new look inside and removed most of the plastic elements; the dash, centre console, and door panels have all been upholstered in fancy black leather but that isn’t the end of the matter. The new styling for the W463 continues in the shape of carbon fibre trim, black Alcantara headliner and pillars, and diamond-quilted seats with red contrast stitching. Carbon Motors has also added additional sound deadening materials (we’re not sure about that; surely drivers will want to listen to the rumble of the exhausts too…) and rounding off the revamped cabin is an upgraded 500 watt hi-fi sound system with a JL subwoofer. The model pictured was also tuned by MD Commerce; they added LED headlights along with a winch and aftermarket wheels with off-road tyres.
This generation has been around for quite some time but an all-new model is due out sometime next year. It’ll no doubt retain the classic shape that has made it such a hit but the wheelbase may be stretched a little to give passengers some more room. Even though it’ll likely be bigger, it could weigh up to 200kg less than the current model.
