Dubai, which is going full steam ahead to realise the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make 25 per cent of all trips in the emirate smart and driverless by 2030, is hosting the World Congress for Self-Driving Transport from today until October 18. The only event of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region, the Congress will bring together experts in the field of self-driving technology to enhance and accelerate the adoption of autonomous technologies globally.
From OEMs to Tier 1s, a host of mobility service providers and technology companies will be in attendance at the four-day event, which will also see Keynote addresses from senior global executives from Uber, Joby Aviation, Aurora Innovation, and Foundation Autonomous. Apart from listening to and interacting with companies and personalities who are leading transformation of the global autonomous industry, the Congress will also give visitors a chance to get a glimpse of what the next generation of innovators are bringing to the market in the next five years.
This edition of the Congress, with its theme “Accelerating innovation, transforming mobility”, will focus on the five key for pillars driving future mobility: enabling connectivity, user-focused topics, policy and legislation, trials and test bed and virtual testing and models.
Over the next four days, the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport will have over 500 international conference attendees sharing their expertise and knowledge and discussing the latest innovations in technology for self-driving transport. Participants and visitors will include government officials, consultants, project managers, business analysts, emergency/crisis management and those from policymaking and regulatory organisations, technology and service provider firms, equipment and manufacturing companies, research and development organizations, universities and technical institutes.
Also part of the event is a World Challenge hosted by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for industry leaders, start-ups, and academia tackling the transport challenges faced by global cities. Objectives of the Challenge are advancing self-driving technology in support of Dubai’s vision and strategy for smart mobility, allowing self-driving transport technology developers to showcase their advancements to global partners and investors, delivering experience and developing knowledge that could be leveraged in developing the driving automation market in Dubai and other global smart cities, encouraging first/last mile solutions to support public transport network and provide additional multi-model transport options, and setting a legacy that will ensure continuity in future technical development, public awareness, and policy development.
