Want a 600-plus-horsepower Ford GT? Well, the official process to get your hands on the mid-engined, carbon-fibre clad supercar starts today! You better have quick fingers though folks; the Blue Oval has a web-based application process for 500 cars and we have a feeling they won’t last too long.

But, just a swollen bank account won’t do; potential customers will have to apply for the privilege of buying the car in a very Ferrari-esque selection process, and it will likely cost in the region of Dh1.6 million. They’re looking for “ambassadors” for the brand so if you’ve been buying models from the marque from day 1 or have a vast collection of Crown Vics and reckon you deserve to own one of the hot new GT’s then head to FordGT.com to fill out their application and play around with the online configurator which has gone live now. It will, however, only be offered in a small palette of eight exterior colours with optional stripes in seven colours (along with various interior treatments and wheel designs) but that’s still more than enough to fiddle around with it all day.

Aside from announcing the opening of its order banks which will run from today (April 13th) to May 12th, Ford revealed it will be making 250 supercars with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 mated to a seven-speed, paddle-shift automatic transmission, this year and next year, making for just 500 in total. Whether or not it will produce more after this remains to be seen. Customers lucky enough to have their applications are approved will work with the new Ford GT Concierge Service to complete the transaction, including taking delivery at a dealer.
