Remember the special Platinum Edition Cayenne that was unveiled at the 2014 Detroit show? Unlike most manufacturers who reserve such editions for their top-spec variants, Porsche surprised us back then by basing it on the entry-level trim of its SUV. Today, the Stuttgart carmaker has announced two new Platinum Edition models for the latest Cayenne. Like before, these are essentially souped-up versions of the V6-powered base Cayenne and the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, both of which get a “high level of content at an attractive price”.
The changes include a high gloss black exterior package, large 20in RS Spyder design wheels housed in wider wheelarches, extensions to which are available in body colours comprising solid black and white paint finishes as standard. However, if you want to choose from the rest of the palette of metallic finishes, such as Jet Black, Purpurite, Mahogany, Carrara White, or Rhodium Silver, you’ll have to pay extra.
Meanwhile, the cabin gets eight-way electrically adjustable leather sport seats with Alcantara centre panels, the Porsche crest embroidered on to the head rests, and stainless steel door sills with back-lit ‘Platinum Edition’ lettering. Surprisingly, in a very un-Porsche-like manner, the Platinum Editions are packed with an impressive array of standard kit, which consists of many otherwise optional equipment like bi-xenon headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System, Power Steering Plus, and front and rear par assist. Anti-glare rear-view and wing mirrors, and dark-tinted privacy glass for the rear windows also come standard. Rounding out the list is the latest version of Porsche Communication Management system that includes navigation, connectivity options, and a Bose surround sound system. Additionally, the plug-in Cayenne S E-Hybrid Platinum Edition model is equipped with an auxiliary air conditioning system that that works even when the car is stationary.
Availability of the Platinum Edition models is not yet confirmed for our region, but the prices for the US market has been announced, where the Cayenne S E-Hybrid model will start at Dh299,700, and the V6 Cayenne at Dh241,000.
