Unlike the beefed up fuel cell-powered Colorado that we showed you yesterday, this is one extreme pick-up truck you can actually buy. And it’s based on one of the baddest trucks ever made. By any standards, the Ford F-150 Raptor with its 450bhp, 3.5-litre biturbo V6, is a pick-up truck that provides more performance and off-road capabilities than an average adventurer will ever need. However, the guys at Hennessey Performance don’t deal with average customers. They are used to custom building cars for madcaps. So it was only natural that they saw potential to infuse even further insanity into the Raptor in the form of more horsepower and more wheels.
The result is the VelociRaptor 6x6, which adds 150 more horses to the V6, a stretched bed and an additional lockable Raptor axle to the rear. The six-cylinder motor has been massaged to squeeze out “600+” horsepower, thanks mostly to upgraded twin turbochargers, modifications to the exhaust system, upgraded cooling system, and a retuned onboard computer. Hennessey has also stretched the Raptor’s aluminum bed and put in a secondary rear axle, which is the same as the standard pickup’s rear axle. The suspension has also been uprated with Fox shock absorbers, and adding to the overall meanness are 20in wheels wrapped in beefy off-road rubber, new, more muscular front and rear bumpers, and extra lights fixed to the cab’s roof.
“Our VelociRaptor 6X6 is pure aggression on wheels – all six of them”, says John Hennessey, Founder and CEO of Hennessey Performance. “The new 2017 Raptor is going to be one of the best all-around trucks ever built. We are excited to help take it to the next level both in terms of performance and exclusivity,” he adds.
However, all these extreme mods come at a fittingly extreme price. Staring at $295,000 (Dh1,083,520), and going all the way up to $317,500 (Dh1,166,160), it’s five to six times costlier than a regular Raptor. But if money is no object, then the kind of attention this monster truck will get you will make it worth the price.
