Mitsubishi has released a teaser image of an all-new SUV which will make its public debut at the Geneva motor show next month.

The newbie, which looks as if it will feature a slightly sloping roofline, has one heck of a beltline; the prominent character line will surely help to this SUV stand out in the busy segment. The taillights were inspired by the XR-PHEV II Concept, and the front will no doubt see a bold fascia.

It will be a rival to the likes of the Nissan Qashqai and could be called the Eclipse but, that’s where the similarities with the compact sportscar will end as it will most probably use the Outlander platform. It could also get the brand's S-AWC all-wheel drive system, along with a multi-link rear axle and be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-pot mated to a CVT with other powertrains joining the lineup later.

A hybrid variant has also been mooted but we’ll know more about the five-door on March 7.
