One of the bestselling and most-loved crossovers in the region has just arrived in the UAE in fifth-generation all-new form, except Honda forgot something when it comes to the new CR-V.
The big draw in overseas markets is the new model’s available 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is Honda’s latest powerplant and makes a whopping 190 horsepower and over 240Nm of torque. Buyers in our market don’t have the option, and merely get a carry-over 2.4-litre naturally aspirated four-pot making less power, or 184bhp at 6,400rpm and 244Nm of torque from 3,900rpm, to be specific. This motor is in base-spec models in other markets, with the 1.5-litre being optional.
So then, alongside the sole option of a CVT it doesn’t sound like the fifth-gen CR-V in GCC-spec is a hoot to drive; however, Honda offers two- and all-wheel drive, plus every driving assist you can think of, while upper grades like EX and Touring get a 7.0in screen compatible with Apple Car Play and AndroidAuto.
Inside and out the 2017 CR-V is all-new with a fresh body design and multi-link rear suspension with front and rear stabiliser bars to help keep the crossover flatter through the corners. All trims get LEDs and customers also get the choice of 17in or 18in wheels. Other features you might want to note are a new soft-touch instrument panel, more spacious cabin than the outgoing model, and the best rear legroom in class, as claimed by Honda.
Optional kit includes smart entry and remote starting, dual-zone climate control, eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, and hill start assist as well as parking sensors. Locally Honda is making available two interior colours, which are black and ivory, and the choice of nine exterior colours including dark blue, olive green and red.
