One out of every 10 S-Classes sold last year was a Mercedes-Maybach, so the second time around Stuttgart hasn’t messed up its über-luxury nameplate. It seems the Chinese and the Russians, in particular, can’t get enough of the things.
Which is why for the 2018 model year and just before its official public premiere at next month’s Geneva motor show, Mercedes-Maybach has already taken the wraps off its updated range comprising the S 560 and S650.
The 2018 cars are said to be even more refined, with a new radiator grille design, and this time, available optional two-tone paintwork plus a bunch of exclusive colour combinations for the interior. These extra personalisation options will keep the Mercedes-Maybach brand pretty cushty on the sales charts.

Starting with that grille, it’s now got some fine vertical struts which the designers say comes inspired by a pinstriped suit. You may also remember seeing such a grille on the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, the spectacular red concept car the Germans unveiled back in 2016. As for the two-tone body, you’ll be able to pick from nine different colour combinations, complemented by new 20in wheel designs of which there are three to choose from.
Inside the 2018 Maybach, Mercedes is offering two new colour combos for the cabin too, including brown/black and beige/black, using Nappa leather and some detail accents in copper, gold, or platinum-coloured contrasting stitching.

The daddy of the range is still the Mercedes-Maybach S 650, which for 2018 delivers 630 horsepower and 1,000Nm of torque thanks to a twin-turbocharged V12 engine, which actually means the figures remain unchanged from the previous 2017 car.
Overall length and wheelbase dimensions also remain intact, which means the Maybach still exceeds the long-wheelbase S-Class by 200mm so that rear passengers get an extra pampered experience.
