Pick-up trucks have come a long way from the bare-bones, utilitarian load-luggers they used to be. With the current crop of mid-size models offering greater creature comforts, up to date technology features and more practicality than ever before, this segment is also gaining some attention from private buyers. The sheer number of new Rangers and Navaras on our roads is testimony to this fact. Not wanting to be left behind, Mitsubishi has revealed their updated 2019 version of the L200 pickup truck.
Shown in Bangkok last week, it has already gone on sale in Thailand, to be followed by other ASEAN markets as well as Oceania, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Latin America. Eventually it will be sold in nearly150 countries around the globe.
Apart from the new, more aggressive styling, the L200 also gets an enhanced 4WD system that is said to deliver improved off-road performance. In a clear bid to appeal to private buyers, it also incorporates the latest in active safety and driver assistance systems. Mitsubishi stresses that the new model features significant refinements to the durability and reliability to meet demands of commercial users while also offering the comfort and ride quality sought by private users. The Super-Select 4WD system delivers optimum traction and handling characteristics for any given surface, while the Easy-Select 4WD simplifies switching between drive modes for different road surfaces. The different settings for Off-road Mode include Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand and Rock.
The active safety tech include Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System, which reduces accidents resulting from improper use of the accelerator when moving off or reversing in car parks and other confined spaces, and driver aids such as Multi Around Monitor and Parking Sensors.
