We know that SUVs and CUVs are all the rage but Volkswagen isn’t ready to abandon the trusty old saloon just yet — and so here is the updated for 2020 Passat.
Available in three different trims (Trendline, Comfortline and top spec Highline), the refreshed model boasts a bold new face not to mention upgraded tech and enhanced access to convenience and driver-assistance features. The bones may still be old but the skin is new and looks particularly eye-catching; a dynamic coupe-like roofline, dramatic “tornado” line, and dominant grille give the Passat a striking new look. Standard slim LED headlights and taillights, along with more prominent Passat badging that runs the width of the rear boot, give it a more premium appearance.
The interior gets a new design and upgraded tech while the revised instrument panel rounds it all off nicely. The Passat comes with standard Volkswagen Car-Net App-Connect technology, which integrates compatible smartphones with the three major platforms — Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink — making select apps accessible from the infotainment screen. Power is supplied by a 2.5-litre five-cylinder making 170 horses and 200Nm of torque (mated to a six-speed auto). It can hit 100kph from rest in 9.2 seconds and has a top speed of 190kph.
Victor Dalmau, Managing Director for Volkswagen Middle East said: “Last year, the previous Passat model made up nearly 20 per cent of Volkswagen Middle East total sales, highlighting the importance of sedan in this region. So we are delighted to welcome a new and upgraded Passat – one of Volkswagen’s key iconic vehicles. It allows our customers to drive a premium German-engineered car at an affordable price.”
Available now from Al Nabooda Automobile showrooms, prices start from Dh95,407 for the Trendline trim.
