We were pretty impressed by the all-new 2019 Altima when we test drove the Nissan with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder motor back in June this year and you may recall us mention that the mid-size saloon would also soon be available with a 2.0-litre turbo later this year. Well, true to our word, Nissan has just announced that the blown engine is now available 2 for consumers across the region.
The new VC-Turbo is the world’s first production-ready variable compression (VC) ratio engine and it delivers improved performance and efficiency. The engine - over 20 years in the making - is a very clever piece of kit as it continuously adjusts its compression ratio to optimize power and efficiency. Having replaced the previous generation’s 3.5-litre V6, it produces 248 horsepower and compared to the outgoing motor it requires less space in the engine bay and contributes to lower NVH levels while using both multi-point injection and gasoline direct injection to balance efficiency and power in all conditions.
Thierry Sabbagh, Managing Director, Nissan Middle East, said, “As part of Nissan’s steadfast commitment on delivering ground-breaking technology to uplift user-experience, we are thrilled to announce availability of the improved VC-Turbo engine in our all-new 2019 Nissan Altima model in the Middle East. Combining the car’s exhilarating style, cutting-edge performance, and affordable luxuriousness, we are confident that the engine advancements made to the existing model will further increase demand for one of the region’s most popular product lines.”
The 2019 Altima VC-Turbo will be available in SV and SL trim levels and will be priced at Dh110,000 and Dh127,500 respectively in the UAE (excluding tax).
