Cyan Racing, the current touring car world champion team, is entering into a partnership with Lynk & Co, the recently launched automotive brand from China’s Geely to develop high performance race and road versions of the 03 sedan. As you would remember, Cyan was the motorsport arm of Polestar until the latter was acquired by Volvo. While it has had a long-standing and fruitful collaboration with Volvo, the Swedish car brand’s Chinese parents, the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, wants the now independent racing team to use a car from their fledgling brand in the 2019 World Touring Car Cup.
Aimed at creating wider awareness about Lynk & Co as it seeks to expand into the European and American markets, the association will see Cyan Racing enter the next year’s FIA WTCR with the Lynk & Co 03 TCR race car. Alongside the race car, the brand also revealed a 500 horsepower road-going version as well. Named the Lynk & Co 03 Cyan, this concept car is said to be the first step towards an extended range of performance offering from the brand.
”Our ambition as a race team is to reclaim our World Title and explore new ways of automotive performance together with Lynk & Co. We will utilise our experience from past performance road car projects in combination with the vast data that we will gain from the racing programme through thousands and thousands of laps on racing circuits all over the world in extreme conditions,” said Christian Dahl, CEO of Cyan Racing.
The Lynk & Co 03 TCR race car was unveiled by reigning champion Thed Björk, who will drive one of these cars for Cyan Racing in the 2019 race. “To once again aim for the World Title when starting my seventh season with Cyan Racing is a dream coming true. Especially combined with this groundbreaking cooperation with Lynk & Co that will include the development of a high-performance concept road car is nothing less than amazing,” said Thed Björk.
