If you have been having some trouble lately with your usually trusty Toyota, it could well be because it’s been fitted with a bunch of counterfeit components rather than original parts which are giving up the ghost earlier than expected and causing you all sorts of problems. It’s a common problem in fact as last year alone Al-Futtaim Toyota — in partnership with UAE government authorities — confiscated over 453,456 fake Toyota parts valued at an incredible Dh20.68 million.
26 raids on counterfeit car part dealers in the UAE took place in 2018 with the majority of these fake goods (oil filters, fuel filters and spark plugs) found in Dubai, Al Ain, Um Al Quwain, Sharjah and Ajman.
258 Economic Department Field Inspectors were trained by Al- Futtaim Toyota in 2018 across the UAE in a bid to increase their expertise in identifying counterfeit parts and judging by the large haul it seems to be working. Commenting on the raids Saud Abbasi, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim-Toyota, said, “It can be difficult for some of our customers to differentiate between genuine and fake car parts, so we have an important role to play in training the official inspectors to ensure our customers’ safety. I would like to express my gratitude to our Brand Protection team and the UAE government officials from the local Economic Departments and local Police for their combined efforts that made the raids campaigns so successful,” he added.
Even though they are cheaper making them tempting you should never knowingly buy fake parts as they can be seriously harmful to your vehicle and cause fatal accidents on the roads due to failure. Genuine Toyota parts are available at Al- Futtaim Toyota and its reputable authorised dealers.
