The third model from Hyundai’s luxury spin-off Genesis, the G70, is set to go on sale later this year. The small saloon, which will slot under the G80 and the flagship G90, will go against the likes of BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar XE and Audi A4.

This week, our spy photographer in the US has spotted a G70 prototype being tested in the Death Valley. As you can see, it doesn’t look as spectacular as the Genesis concept displayed at last year’s New York show. But with former BMW M engineering boss Albert Biermann at the helm, the G70 should impress with its dynamic abilities.

The shots also reveal the G70’s cabin, which although camouflaged, shows a clean layout with minimal clutter. A large infotainment screen is also seen on the centre stack.

The G70 will share a platform with Kia’s new Stinger, and is expected to make use of the same turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. The twin-turbo 3.3-litre V6 that powers the Genesis G80 and G90 could come as an option.
