In the same week that Roll-Royce revealed its eighth generation Phantom, our spy photographers spotted the upcoming Cullinan SUV being tested. While we’ve brought you photos of Goodwood’s SUV earlier, this time it’s been seen at a very unlikely location; the Nurburgring Nordschleife. This is a sign that for all its ultra-luxury credentials, this Bentley Bentayga rival will not be a pushover when it comes to dynamic abilities.
As we’ve mentioned earlier, the Cullinan, named after the largest diamond ever discovered, will share its underpinnings with the Phantom 8. This means it will benefit from the lightweight, super stiff all-aluminium architecture, and will distinguish itself amply from parent company BMW’s X Series SUVs.
These photos also reveal the outline of the vehicle better than earlier shots, and it does look like a Phantom on stilts, which is good news for those looking for the same magic carpet ride quality and the ultimate luxury SUV experience. The Cullinan is expected to offer its discerning customers a choice of different wheelbases and lengths, while a hybrid variant could join the V12 sometime later. It will also be the first Rolls-Royce to offer four-wheel drive capabilities.
