The XC90 T5 is quite possibly one of the best-driving SUVs in its class right now. Sure it’s no Porsche Cayenne, but that 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, despite just making 254 horsepower, has some serious go. Off the line, and this is no exaggeration, this XC90 almost feels like a hot hatch. It’s noticeably smoother than the twin-charged engine in the T6 in my opinion.
Fuel economy is another facet that is very impressive — I’m still clocking a remarkable 7.0 to 8.0 litres per 100km, despite the aforementioned traffic-light shenanigans.
In other news, I am beginning to get to grips with the infotainment system, and like I said, it’s a matter of acclimatisation.
The AC, meanwhile, is a little louder than usual at full whack, which is also an issue I found in our long-term Mercedes GLC. It’s a small niggle and not quite enough to put me off the XC90. A worthy winner of our 2016 Car of the Year gong.
